About the Role
The Backend & AI Systems Developer help build the hard, high-leverage systems behind our e-commerce software. You take large projects (backend, infrastructure, and AI pipelines) and ship them end to end, working directly alongside the CTO.
We are deliberately not hiring a narrow "backend-only" developer. In the AI age, the most valuable engineer designs systems, wires up payments and infrastructure, and builds the LLM/agent pipelines that power the product, and uses AI tooling to move at 3x. You should lean backend, but you are really a high-agency product engineer who is happiest owning the hard parts.
In this role, you will:
Build AI agents for product quality : create agents that inspect what we generate and make sure every output that reaches a customer meets our bar, catching and fixing problems automatically.
Own commerce & payments infrastructure : build and evolve the systems behind checkout, billing, and orders, reliable, correct, and able to change without ever dropping a transaction.
Improve the core generation pipelines : work on the AI systems at the heart of the product, including the hard problem of keeping the experience consistent and high-quality at scale.
Ship new product formats & experiences : take a fresh idea for how our product are made and can be experienced from concept to a shipped, reliable feature.
Run the backbone : design and maintain the APIs, queues, data models, background jobs, and infrastructure everything runs on, with strong observability and uptime.
Tools and workflow:
You don't need experience with all of these to apply.
Backend & data : Next JS, Convex, queues, and background workers.
AI : LLM and image-generation APIs, agent/orchestration frameworks, and evaluation tooling for the generation pipeline.
Payments & integrations : Stripe and the third-party services that handle fulfillment and delivery.
Cloud & DevOps : deployment, environments, CI/CD, and monitoring for smooth, reliable production releases.
Claude Code / Codex / Cursor : AI-assisted development is the default here, we expect you to move fast with it.
Close collaboration with the CTO & product team : daily alignment on architecture, priorities, and what to build next.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Are AI-native. you build with LLMs and agents and think in evals, prompts, tools, and pipelines, not just code.
Are proficient in Next.js, and working with SaaS databases
Understand DevOps practices, particularly with GitHub
Are proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused
Thrive in dynamic startup environments and are eager to take ownership
Bonus if :
Have experience with AI pipeline
Have experience in Saas
