About the Role
The Backend Developer builds the engine behind our stealth e-commerce project: the systems and AI pipeline that turn a customer's story into a personalized product and get it printed and shipped.
You own the backend from APIs to infrastructure. You move fast with AI tools, and you care about reliability as much as speed.
Mission of the role
Keep the product fast, reliable and scalable, so every order is generated, produced and delivered without a hitch.
In this role, you will:
• Build and scale the AI pipeline. Develop and improve the generation and training pipelines at the heart of the product, with strong evals and quality checks.
• Build the backend and APIs. Design the services and interfaces the web app, admin and partners rely on.
• Own DevOps. Manage deployments, environments, CI/CD, monitoring and uptime.
• Connect production and fulfillment. Integrate with print and shipping partners so orders flow automatically from checkout to delivery.
• Make commerce just work. Keep checkout, payments and orders reliable, never dropping a transaction.
• Build admin tools. Give the team internal tools for production, support and quality control.
• Maintain and improve. Fix bugs, reduce tech debt and optimize performance and costs.
• Research and test. Try new models and approaches, and ship what works.
Tools and workflow:
You don't need experience with all of these to apply.
• Backend & data: Next.js, Convex, queues, and background workers.
• AI: LLM and image-generation APIs, agent frameworks, and evaluation tools.
• Payments & integrations: Stripe, plus print and shipping partner APIs.
• Cloud & DevOps: deployment, CI/CD, GitHub, and monitoring.
• Claude Code / Codex / Conductor: AI-assisted coding with parallel agents is the default here. We expect you to move fast with it.
• Linear: issues, sprints and roadmap.
• Close work with the CTO and Product Owner: daily alignment on architecture, priorities, and what to build next.
You might thrive in this role if you:
• Are AI-native. You build with LLMs and agents, and think in evals, prompts and pipelines.
• Have solid backend experience with TypeScript/Node.js and databases.
• Understand DevOps, especially with GitHub.
• Are proactive, detail-oriented and focused on solutions.
• Like fast-moving startups and want to take ownership.
Bonus if:
• Have experience with image-generation or AI pipelines at scale
• Have experience in e-commerce
